Bobby Locke
A South African Golf Legend and Superstar
South African Golf History would be very much incomplete if the name "Bobby Locke" is not mentioned!
Bobby Locke was the first South African International Golfer. He pioneered for all South African Golfers from Gary Player to the current crop of South African International Golfers.
The most interesting or funny thing is that Bobby Locke's legacy seem to be kept alive on the main in the USA and Europe. He hasn't been honoured "enough" in his country of birth!

- His parents were from Ireland.
- He Passed Away on 09 March 1987 (Aged 69), Johannesburg, South Africa
- His wife, Mary (née Fenton) was Canadian
- They only had one Child, Caroline/Carolyn. née
- Turned Professional in 1938
- PGA Tour Wins: 15
- Sunshine Tour: 30
- Other: 30
- Was Inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1977
- Won the Harry Vardon Trophy Three Times: 1946,1950 and 1954

[Locke died of meningitis in 1987, leaving his widow broken-hearted in a decaying Johannesburg apartment block he’d purchased back in 1949. After a failed marriage, Carolyn moved in with her mother five years later and the pair became increasingly reclusive while facing mounting financial problems. In September 2000, Mary and Carolyn drank champagne laced with poison and were found dead some days later, hand in hand in beds pulled together. Mary was buried beside Bobby and Carolyn’s ashes were scattered over her parent’s graves.
